Things to do in Zanzibar.

Zanzibar is compact but layered. A typical week holds three structured days and time left intentionally open: one inland, one on the water, one at distance, and unhurried hours in between. What is possible depends on the season.

answer

What are the main things to do on Zanzibar?

Diving and snorkelling around Mnemba reef, sunset dhow sailing off Stone Town, kitesurfing on Paje beach, walking the UNESCO-listed alleys of Stone Town, visiting Jozani forest, and a day-trip safari to Saadani National Park on the mainland.

On the water

Sunset dhow sailing off Stone Town, snorkelling and diving around Mnemba and the east reefs (clearest in Kaskazi, December–February), kitesurfing on Paje beach (steady wind in Kuzi, June–October), and slow days on sandbanks at low tide.

Inland

Stone Town — the UNESCO-listed old quarter — for evenings when the heat fades and doors open. Jozani forest for the red colobus monkeys. Spice farms, mangrove walks, and the agricultural belt around the centre of the island.

At distance

Saadani National Park on the mainland is the closest safari to Zanzibar — a short flight, returning by sunset. Pemba and Mafia islands extend the archipelago for travellers staying longer.
