When to visit Zanzibar.

Zanzibar's year follows four Swahili monsoon seasons. Each shapes the wind, the sea, the rainfall, and the rhythm of life on the islands. There is no single best month — the right time depends on what you are looking for.

The four seasons are also mapped visually through the Zanzibar Seasons compass.

answer

When is the best time to visit Zanzibar?

June–October is the most stable window: dry, breezy, cooler nights — best for kitesurfing, safari add-ons, and outdoor days. December–February offers the calmest sea and clearest water, ideal for diving and dhow sailing. March–May is the long rains and the quietest period of the year.

If you want wind

Kuzi (June–October) is the kitesurfing season. Steady southeast trade winds, dry skies, cooler nights. The east coast is at its most active.

If you want quiet

Masika (March–May) is the long rains. Many east-coast hotels close. The island turns deep green and feels private. Vuli (November) brings short afternoon storms before the season reopens.
