north of island.
A private wooden dhow sails out from the north coast of Zanzibar in the late afternoon. Drinks on board. The wind drops, the sail fills softly, and the sun sets over the reef. About two hours on the water.
What it is
A traditional Swahili dhow with a single triangular sail, captained and crewed locally. Up to around ten guests per dhow. The route runs north along the calm leeward coast — typically out of Kendwa or Nungwi — keeping you in glassy water for golden hour.
Practical
- · $880 per dhow (not per person).
- · Departure roughly 90 minutes before sunset.
- · Calmest in Kaskazi (Dec–Feb) and Vuli (Nov).
- · Possible most of Kuzi (Jun–Oct), wind permitting.
