Saadani National Park sits on the Tanzanian coast directly across from Zanzibar. It is the only park in East Africa where elephants walk on the beach. The Wami river opens into mangrove channels, the bush rises behind the dunes, and the Indian Ocean is always in frame.
From Zanzibar
Day safaris are possible by light aircraft from Stone Town — about twenty minutes in the air. You land on a bush strip, do a morning game drive, lunch on the beach, and return by sunset.
When to go
Best in Kaskazi (Dec–Feb) and Kuzi (Jun–Oct) — dry tracks, easier game viewing. Avoid the heart of Masika (the long rains, Apr–May) when bush roads turn slow.
